RDC: Top Congolese FDLR ally killed

DR CONGO - A Congolese army renegade, Col. Emmanuel Nsengiyumva, allegedly linked to the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) was killed, last Saturday.
Maj. Olivier Hamuli, a Congolese army spokesperson in North Kivu, says Nsengiyumva, leader of the Patriotic Front for the Liberation of Congo (FPLC), was killed during operations in a zone called Binza, in North Kivu.
The FDLR are remnants of the former Rwandan army (Ex-FAR) and Interahamwe militia responsible for the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
They are reported to be working closely with FPLC in their insurgency that has left many people dead in the eastern DRC.
Hamuli said the slain colonel was allied to the FDLR’s Suki group and thus a target of the ongoing operation Amani Leo that is being carried out jointly by the Congolese military and the UN Mission in DRC, MONUSCO.
